Agra is a sprawling industrial town located some 204 km from Delhi. It is synonymous with Taj Mahal which lies magnificently on the banks of the Yamuna River. The Mughal Emperor Babar established his capital here in 1526 heralding an era of remarkable architectural activity. Agra stands witness to the grandiose monuments which each monarch built and tried to outdo his predecessor.
Agra is famous in the world over for its TAJ Mahal.
The old part of the town is north of the fort where the Kinari Bazaar the main market place is located in a narrow street. The cantonment area to the south is the modern part of town known as Sadar Bazaar. Taj Ganj a congested network of alleyways is situated in the south of Taj Mahal.
Agra is an industrial city with many glass, leather and shoe factories. There is a lively chowk and a wide range of places to stay and eat.
