Munnar is situated at the confluence of three mountain streams Mudrapuzha, Nallathani and Kundala. The high ranges of Munnar were earlier known as Kannan Devan hills, named after a landlord. It is said that the Duke of Wellington was the first European to visit Munnar, in 1790. This was once the summer resort of the erstwhile British Government in south India and even now there are many colonial bungalows and buildings in Munnar. The natural beauty and pleasant climate throughout the year makes Munnar a favourite destination for Indians and foreigners.
